Nursing School

Nurses are without a doubt often the only ray of sunshine on the cloudiest of days in people's lives.  There to hold a hand, offer encouragement, offer information, knowledge and soothe the fears of the unknown for medical problems big and small.  Compassion and patience that mean the world to so many patients and their families day in and day out.

Nursing In The Fall

Nursing through the year presents challenges and learning experiences everyday.  The Fall season along with it's beautiful leaves turning colors, pumpkins and apples in the field, kids going back to school and the heat turning on at home brings along a whole season of additional medical problems.

In autumn there are less hours of sunlight and the crazy, almost unpredictable weather that ranges from freezing in the morning, warm in the afternoon and cold again at night lowers immune systems and sends patients of all ages off to the Emergency Room and doctor's offices with colds, the flu, ear infections and even exacerbates asthma.  People call out of work and students stay home from school.  A Nurse and their family may get sick and have colds too, but the nursing staff has to stay strong and keep on working so they can keep helping everyone else.

   

Nurses must be super angels watching over us and taking care of us when we are at our worst, and watching over themselves and their families all at the same time.  Through all the sniffling and sneezing, aches and pains whether from viruses or bacteria, remember to treat you, the nurse, with a little tender loving care, dress warm and be prepared. Don't forget to take your vitamins, keep hydrated and eat healthy too.

Nurses Are Smart

Nurses are smart, highly educated and trained professionals that continue their education throughout their careers.  Some people think that nurses aren't smart or they would become doctors.  That is so not true.  To pass a Nursing Board Exam student nurses first have to pass classes in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and of course, biology.  It takes years of training both classroom and in healthcare settings getting hands-on before a nurse can even take the Boards. 

                

Wise nurses are smart about people too.  Of course they are educated to take care of their patients, administer medication, assist with surgeries and handle a patient during some of the worst times in their lives.  But a smart, caring nurse knows that people need psychological care too.  They are frightened, angry and often very sad.  Nurses know that sometimes patients and their families often react and behave badly towards a nurse.  A smart LPN and RN knows it's not personal.  Nurses care for people in many different ways. 

   

Nurses don't just follow a doctor's orders, they are a vital part of a healthcare team.  RN's and LPN's need to have excellent critical thinking skills and must have the confidence in their knowledge to make patient care decisions also.  They must be smart about recognizing symptoms, problems and changes in a patient's conditions.  Resourceful, alert nurses can make a huge difference in a patients positive treatment outcome.
